Another Beautiful Day ...
It was yet another beautiful day in Hull. It was as warm today as it ever was while I was in Spain, so while I did some work finishing up "For Whom the Bell Tolls," going to classes, and research for my essay, I soon succumbed to the weather.
Relaxed and played casual games of baseball before I returned to my room and dug a bit more into my Hemingway essay.
As you can tell, it wasn't a terribly exciting day, and yet another one without any post. Ate some dinner, watched a little TV, and then went to bed reasonably early.

It was 20 years ago today...
Welcome to my retro-blog! The year was 1988. Ronald Reagan was in his final months as president. George Michael was rocking the charts with his album "Faith." Gas cost about 90 cents a gallon in the U.S. (or £2.65 for a gallon of petrol in Great Britain.)
It was also at this time that as a freshman at Millersville University in Pennyslvania, I made the decision to spend my sophomore year of college studying at Humberside College of Higher Education in Hull, England. (Note: Today it is known as Lincoln University, and the campus has moved out of Hull.)
One thing I did do was manage to write something about every day I was studying abroad, from my departure from home in Camp Hill, Pa. (a suburb of Harrisburg) on Sept. 20, 1988, until I returned to the States on June 23, 1989.
I chronicled everything I experienced... some of it mundane, some intriguing, and once in a while, a little frightening. You know, typical college student stuff.
It's been years since I've cracked open the worn red notebook binder that holds all 272 pages of handwritten notes that I took while living at 3 St. Martin's, The Grange, Beverley Road, Hull, England. As you can imagine, there are many events that I had completely forgotten that I am rediscovering as I share them here.
Since blogs weren't around in 1988, I really had no way of sharing my journal with others. But now, on the 20th anniversary of this experience, I thought it might be fun to create a retro-blog, and highlight the days' events as if they had just happened.
I intend to recount these events fully unabridged, save for the occasional need to fill in a necessary detail here and there for your benefit, on the dates they occurred.
I'll pepper it with photos and related links as much as possible. Feel free to comment and quiery as you see fit. I will do my best to not reveal any events before they appear in the blog. That way, you can see how events unfold much as they did back then, in the days before e-mail, iPods, digital photography, cell phones (well, for the common among us, anyway) and blogs.
